Snap beans from the bush bean bed
Summer squash
On Friday I picked some cucumbers, broccoli and summer squash.
Totals for this week are:
4.570 lbs. snap beans
2.544 lbs. summer squash
1.016 lbs. cucumber
0.542 lbs. broccoli
Total weekly harvest: 8.672 pounds (3.93 kg)
And just today I picked seven more long cucumbers. Eeek!
Got to make this quick. Please join us gardeners at Daphne's Dandelions Harvest Monday.

Good looking beans you have there! I hope ours will be ready soon. I know what you mean about the cucumbers. We are giving them away already, which is a good problem to have.
Nice harvest of snap beans. I'm still waiting on my Provider beans to produce a decent picking.
That is a lot of beans. One of my pole beans is already 6 feet up the trellis but so far no blossoms on any of them.
That squash looks wonderful!
Nice bean harvest. And you are getting squash. I keep watching my plants, but no blooms yet.
Wow - those are a lot of beans! I can't wait for mine to start flowing, but it will be a while as they don't even have flowers yet. And I think I see some refrigerator pickles in your future!
Hi Dave,
I'm so excited about having so many beans. I'll be making lots of green bean stir-fries, and it'll be great making baby food with vegetables from the garden.
With all the cucumbers we've been getting I see Greek cucumber sauce in our future, served with Nature Burger crumbles with lettuce, tomato, and cucumber slices on folded over flatbread. Mmmm. Your greenhouse is wonderful and I love that you use it to grow cucumbers in the summer, no chance of cucumber beetles or squash bugs there.
Hi David V.,
It's funny how pole have to get so huge before they produce any blossoms.
And thanks for mentioning how Jade bush beans produce later and are a longer thinner snap bean. Your garden is looking amazing. It seems like you just planted your pepper plants and now you have peppers growing on them.
Hi Garden Hoosier,
Once bush beans get going it seems they come on all at once. You're getting a great variety of spring and summer harvests.
Hi Daisy,
Thank you! I'm excited to use the first squash of the season. The patty pan squash are usually firmer and less watery than their zucchini and yellow summer squash counterparts.
Hi Daphne,
I was surprised how early the patty pan squash was as it started fruiting the same time as the bicolored F1 hybrid Zephyr. I thought the patty pan was Bennings Green Tint but the shape isn't flat enough, maybe White Scallop. All the re-seeding makes it a guessing game.
Hi Margaret,
I've never made refrigerator pickles before, but my friends and coworkers have shared a couple of recipes I'm going to try.
It's awful how voracious the slugs are in your area, they've really munched down your bean plants. But your garden spring harvests are looking great.
Go you freeze peas and beans?
Hi Sue,
Normally I would freeze lots when we had a deep freeze, I'll probably end up freezing a little but pressure canning when I get loads from the bean trellis.
I got a bigger harvest from the bush beans this week. We ended up cooking more than 5 pounds in various dishes and for baby food.
